![]() To block that technique, the third rotor of Seidle’s SentrySafe is indented with twelve notches that catch the rod if someone turns the dial while pulling the handle. Because the safe has a rod that slips into slots in the three rotors when they’re aligned to the combination’s numbers, a human safecracker can apply light pressure to the safe’s handle, turn its dial, and listen or feel for the moment when that rod slips into those slots. That reduced the maximum bruteforcing time to about one day and 16 hours, or under a day on average.īut Seidle found one more clever trick, this time taking advantage of a design quirk in the safe intended to prevent traditional safecracking. By making attempts in a certain careful order, it could keep two of the three rotors in place, while trying new numbers on just the last, vastly cutting the time to try new combinations to a maximum of four seconds per try. Seidle also realized that the bot didn’t actually need to return the dial to its original position before trying every combination. That simple convenience measure meant his bot could try every third number instead of every single number, immediately paring down the total test time to just over four days. If the combination includes a 12, for instance, 11 or 13 would work, too. First he found that, like many safes, his SentrySafe had some tolerance for error. The remains of the robot are left in the penthouse as Nick and his crew proceed to escape.Robots can crack safes faster than humans-and differently: After successfully fending off Dawes' men, Tyson proceeds to open the new unlocked vault only to discover that is has been wired with explosives, heavily injuring him and destroying the brute. Upon discovering Dawes' vault hidden behind the fireplace, Tyson Latchford activates the Brute as Nick and Khai Minh Dao fend off waves of Preferred Outcomes guards. Despite this, Nick and Marcus are able to escape the compound and make their way to the airfield where the Brute is being held and are successful in recovering it and escaping. Unknown to them, however, Carl Stoddard had set a two hundred and fifty thousand dollar reward to whoever captured Nicholas Mendoza alive, prompting Tony Alpert to betray Nick and Marcus and lock them up in a decommissioned missile silo. Having gather intelligence that Julian Dawes' vault was uncrackable and that using explosives to open it would be unreliable, Marcus Boone mentioned that Alpert owned a safe-cracking robot that was perfect for the job, setting up a meeting a result in order to borrow it. Initially owned by Tony Alpert, the Brute can essentially crack any vault in a relativity short amount of time. The Brute is an autodialer safe-cracking robot featured in Battlefield Hardline. ![]()
